While many of us may not have the time (and the money) to exhaust that many things to-do, the next best things is to list down a smaller number to experience. After reading about the attractions and activities above, I am truly proud to declare that Western Visayas is a great destination and could possibly compete with world class attractions.

Malipayon ko nga nailhan tika, Western Visayas!

The Visayan region is one of the main regions of the Philippines. Sandwiched between the large islands of Luzon and Mindanao, the Visayan region is a region that is fragmented into several large, inter-related, yet independently diverse island-provinces.

Region 6 Western Visayas

One of the most interesting areas within the Visayan region, are the provinces located in the western side. These include the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. Each of these provinces hold natural spectacles, unique cultures, and thriving economies. The more I learn about these provinces, the more I am convinced that the only real common thing among them, is the happy disposition of these Visayans; a trait that is common throughout the country.

Capiz

Capiz is a province that has poor soil for agriculture; however, it is recognized as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines for the variety of seafood that it offers. Roxas City, the province's capital, is known as the birthplace of the 5th president of the Philippines, Manuel Roxas.

 Seafood of Capiz

Capiz is located at the North Eastern area of the Panay Island. On its west are the provinces of Aklan and Antique; while on its south is the province of Iloilo. In order to get to Capiz, you can either ride an Airplane or a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) Ferry.

Iloilo

Iloilo City is the capital of the Iloilo province. The province of Iloilo has the largest marshland in the Western Visayan Region next to Sanderbans. The province is divided into two: the highlands in the Western border and the lowlands opposite it. Small islands that are located at the East side of Panay Island are also included in the Iloilo province.

 Marshland of Iloilo

The Province of Iloilo is located at the South Eastern area of the Panay Island. On its North is the province of Capiz; on its West is Antique; while on its South West is the provinces of Guimaras and Negros Occidental. Like Capiz, Iloilo is accessible with the use of an Airplane and a RoRo Ferry.

Negros Occidental

Negros Occidental has a rich, volcanic soil thanks to the Kanlaon Volcano. The grounds of Negros Occidental is ideal for agriculture. Negros Occidental produces more than half the sugar output of the country; this is the reason it is called the Sugar Capital of the Philippines. The Capital of Negros Occidental is Bacolod City.

Sugar cane field in Negros Occidental

Unlike Capiz and Iloilo, Negros Occidental is not located in the Panay Island. Negros Occidental is located at the North Western area of the 3rd largest island in the Philippines, the Negros Island. On its South East is the Negros Oriental province; while on its North West is the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras. Like Capiz and Iloilo, Negros Occidental is also accessible with the use of an Airplane and a Roro Ferry.

 Map of Negros Occidental

Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental are just three of the six provinces making up the Western Visayan region, but it is more than enough to convince people to visit it. With so many things to still discover and experience, i am very thankful and excited to find out more. And as they say in the local dialect, Malipayon ko nga nailhan tika, Western Visayas!
